Trafficking exploits people for labour, sex, forced criminality or other purposes, often leaving lasting trauma. ODIHR helps countries strengthen their laws, policies and institutions to prevent trafficking and protect those affected. ODIHR works with survivors, states and communities to prevent trafficking, protect rights and support lasting recovery and justice.
The voice of survivors is central to this work. Through the International Survivors of Trafficking Advisory Council (ISTAC) and support for national survivor councils, ODIHR ensures that lived experience shapes policy and practice.
ODIHR also trains officials, reviews laws and supports civil society to build systems that are trauma-informed, gender-sensitive and rooted in human rights. By working across borders and sectors, ODIHR seeks to help prevent human trafficking and ensure survivors are protected and empowered.
