Election assessment mission
Early Parliamentary Elections, 21 May 2023
Following an invitation from the authorities of Greece and in accordance with its mandate, ODIHR has deployed an Election Assessment Mission to the 21 May early parliamentary elections.
The mission is led by Douglas Wake and consists of a core team of six experts based in Athens. The mission will assess whether the elections are held in line with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation.
Observers will closely follow fundamental components of the elections such as:
- The political and campaign environment
- The election administration
- The legal framework for elections
- The media environment, as it relates to elections
- The system for regulating political and campaign finance
Election day
The ODIHR EAM will not carry out systematic or comprehensive observation of the voting, counting and tabulation on election day. Mission members will, however, visit a small number of polling stations on the day.
Previous Elections
ODIHR has observed three previous elections in Greece, most recently the 2019 early parliamentary elections.
