About
In a nutshell:
Advancing gender equality in politics in many countries is still not a governmental national policy priority. While the majority of OSCE participating States have adopted some form of multi-year national gender equality strategy, programme, or action plan aiming at addressing key policy issues, like violence against women, women’s economic participation, or gender-based discrimination, many of them have not committed to comprehensive approaches to advancing gender equality in politics. This leads us to conclude that a renewed and innovative commitment of OSCE participating States is needed to ensure further development.
At this webinar, we will review existing good practices on how governmental bodies for gender equality are promoting women’s political participation and gender equality in politics and present ODIHR’s new methodology on national assessments of gender equality in politics.
Questions for discussion:
- Why is it important that governmental bodies for gender equality take a coordination role in making gender equality in politics a governmental policy priority?
- What are some effective strategies governmental bodies apply for gender equality to advance women’s political participation and gender equality in politics?
- What are the expectations of women’s movements in Europe, and how can effective alliances between civil society, government and political parties be established?
Speakers:
- Yanna Parnin, Head of Policy Unit and Secretary to the Gender Equality Commission, Council of Europe
- Markéta Kos Mottlová, Project Manager, Forum 50%, and Chair of the Committee for Balanced Representation of Women and Men in Politics and Decision-making of the Gender Equality Council, Czech Republic
