About
ODIHR, with the support of Slovakia’s Ministry or Interior, is organizing an online training session for employees of the country’s network of information offices for crime victims on 6 September 2023.
The training will equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hate crimes and effectively support hate crime victims. By the end of the session, participants will have gained an understanding of the specific needs of hate crime victims and will be better able to provide victims with the appropriate information, advice, and referrals to relevant support organizations.
Background
The treatment of hate crime victims by the authorities can make or break their trust in the criminal justice system and the willingness of individual victims and their communities to report such crimes in future. ODIHR has developed resources and training materials to prevent hate crime victims’ secondary victimization and to ensure that the authorities offer specialized support and protection tailored to their individual needs.
