About
This in-person event aims to strengthen understanding of hate crimes against indigenous peoples towards developing guidance and resources to address such intolerance. Indigenous activists and civil society representatives from across the OSCE region will have the opportunity to share and explore their key concerns, trends and developments related to hate crimes targeting indigenous groups. Through in-depth discussions, participants will pinpoint key challenges in addressing crimes motivated by intolerance against indigenous peoples, and share these with ODIHR.
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
Background
OSCE participating States have committed to undertake a range of measures to address hate crime. They have also recognized the particular vulnerability to violence and challenges facing indigenous peoples in exercising their rights. Nevertheless, indigenous people across the OSCE region continue to face intolerance and discrimination, including hate crimes.
This event builds on discussions held as part of an online conference on “Addressing Intolerance and Discrimination against Indigenous Peoples: Mapping the Situation in the OSCE Region”, organized by ODIHR on 9 November 2021.
The event draws on ODIHR’s extensive work to address hate crimes and foster tolerance and inclusion.
