About
The study visit is a part of rule of law component of the ODIHR project Promoting Democratization and Human Rights in Belarus funded by the European Union. It is the first in a series of three study visits on rule of law and other justice-related issues. The purpose of this study visit is to familiarize participants from Belarus with the administration of e-justice in Estonia.
Five judges and court specialists (three women and two men) who are involved in the implementation of e-justice solutions in judiciary in Belarus will participate in the study visit. ODIHR arranges study visits of selected judges and court specialists to provide an opportunity to look at various national solutions to common challenges in the administration of e-justice and to strengthen professional contacts among justice representatives. The study visit would allow the participants to learn about the background and practicalities of e-justice in the judicial system of Estonia.
The study visit will include an overview of information technologies in court proceedings, legislation for supporting e-justice and access to justice in digital age. The study visit aims to support the Belarusian authorities in expanding further such guarantees as access to court, access to information about trials, and trial within a reasonable time, thus ensuring better implementation of the right to a fair trial for Belarusian citizens.
