WARSAW, 27 November 2015 ─ Michael Georg Link, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), praised yesterday’s decision by the Moldovan parliament to declare 27 January the Day of Commemorating the Victims of the Holocaust, following a government proposal.

"I commend Moldova's decision as a significant move demonstrating strong political will to implement OSCE commitments on promoting Holocaust remembrance and education," said Director Link. "We encourage the society to see this remembrance day as an opportunity to reflect on Moldova’s Holocaust history and as a starting point for more Holocaust remembrance, education and research activities."

ODIHR and the OSCE Mission to Moldova have worked closely with the Moldovan authorities in the run-up to the adoption of this parliamentary resolution. In 2014, ODIHR, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Bureau for Interethnic Relations organized a roundtable discussion to raise awareness about the Holocaust in the country.

Moldova joins 27 other OSCE participating States that commemorate 27 January as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Visit //www.osce.org/hmd2015 for more information.
