Following an invitation to observe the parliamentary elections in Latvia scheduled for 3 October 2026, and in accordance with its mandate, ODIHR has deployed an Election Assessment Mission (EAM).

The mission will assess the elections for its compliance with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards, as well as with national legislation. Observers will, in particular, look into the legal framework for the elections, the administration of elections, candidate and voter registration, conduct of the campaign, campaign finance rules, as well as media environment and media coverage of the elections. 

The mission will visit a limited number of polling stations on election day and systematic observation of voting, counting or tabulation of results on election day is not envisaged.

A final report on the observation, including potential recommendations, will be published some months after the end of the election process.

Previous observation activities

ODIHR has observed eight elections in the country since 1998, most recently the 2022 parliamentary elections.
