OSCE/ODIHR expands its ability to train prosecutors on countering hate crime

Prosecutors from nine OSCE participating States and officials from the OSCE Presence in Albania and the OSCE Mission to Skopje took part in a train-the-trainers event on countering hate crime organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in Warsaw from 23 to 25 May 2017.

The training aimed to sharpen the participants’ skills in understanding, identifying and prosecuting hate crimes.

“With the completion of this training, we have a new team of qualified trainers who can help ODIHR implement its Prosecutors and Hate Crimes Training (PAHCT) programme in an increasing number of countries,” said ODIHR Hate Crime Officer François Deleu.

Prosecutors are at the core of states’ efforts to address hate crimes. The PAHCT programme strengthens their ability to use international standards and national legislation to build successful hate crime cases. The PAHCT programme, active since 2014, is under way in Bulgaria, Georgia, Iceland and Poland.
