About the event

Across the OSCE region, people from many different communities continue to be targeted in hate crimes. These attacks cause serious harm, and victims often need specialised support that recognises not only what happened to them, but also how their gender and other aspects of their identity shape their experience.

This event brings together national experts and practitioners from across the region to look at how gender influences hate crime victimisation and what this means for support services. Participants will discuss key challenges, share promising practices and develop recommendations on how to provide support that is gender-responsive, victim-centred and tailored to each individual. The goal is to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement, victim support providers and the communities they serve.

Who can take part

Participation is by invitation only and intended for experts and practitioners involved in hate crime victim support, gender equality and related fields.

Background

Insights from this event will help guide ODIHR’s work with participating States on making hate crime victim support systems more gender-responsive. The event is part of the STARS project. It is supported by ODIHR’s CHANGE project, which works to strengthen democratic institutions, policies and social norms that advance gender equality, women’s human rights and women’s safety.
