ODIHR supports states in removing barriers that prevent people with disabilities from participating in politics and public life. This means ensuring equal access to voting, information, political parties and decision-making. The Dublin Recommendations, adopted in 2023, propose, for example, accessible polling stations, information in Easy-to-Read, Braille and sign language and stronger representation of people with disabilities in political institutions.
ODIHR’s expertise stems from its work with civil society, governments and its Advisory Panel on the Political Participation of Persons with Disabilities. Established in 2021, this Panel is comprised of independent experts from across the OSCE region who provide guidance on making political life more inclusive.
