Election expert team
Early Federal Elections, 20 September 2021
Following an invitation to observe the early federal election in Canada scheduled for 20 September 2021, based on the findings and conclusions of a Needs Assessment Mission deployed from 23 to 25 August, and in accordance with its mandate, ODIHR is preparing to deploy an Election Expert Team (EET) for this election.
The Team will assess whether the elections are held in line with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation.
The ODIHR EET will closely examine components of the election identified as meriting attention by the ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission, specifically:
-
election administration
-
legal framework
-
campaign activities and financing
-
media coverage of the campaign
The mission will visit a limited number of polling stations on election day and systematic observation of voting, counting or tabulation procedures are not envisaged.
Previous Elections
ODIHR has previously deployed two observation activities in Canada, most recently to the 2015 federal election.
