Latvia, Early Parliamentary Elections, 17 September 2011: Preliminary Statement

Report of the OSCE/ODIHR limited election observation mission.

Following an invitation from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Latvia to the OSCE, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) deployed a Limited Election Observation Mission (LEOM) for the 17 September early parliamentary elections.

The elections were assessed for their compliance with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections, as well as with Latvian legislation. This statement of preliminary findings and conclusions is delivered prior to the completion of the process. The final assessment of the elections will depend, in part, on the conduct of the remaining stages of the election process, including the handling of possible post-election day complaints and appeals.
