About
Themes discussed included equal opportunities, community relations, and domestic and international legal and policy issues.
The previous year, High Commissioner Max van der Stoel had presented a report on the same topic to the Committee of Senior Officials. He had been asked to study the social, economic and humanitarian problems relating to Roma in some participating States and the relevance of these problems to the High Commissioner's mandate.
The report, which underscored the need for greater co-ordination, underlined major policy challenges and proposed possible measures for addressing them.
