About
Advancing women’s political participation and gender equality in political life is a long-term and multi-faceted process, which requires action from diverse critical actors, including political parties, parliaments, government agencies and civil society. Many OSCE participating States have legally regulated certain aspects, for instance gender quotas for election candidate lists, but there is an overall lack of a strategic and proactive approach by government authorities.
ODIHR, in collaboration with the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Agency for Gender Equality of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is running a workshop aiming to assess the current status and potential ways forward in advancing gender equality in politics. The workshop is based on ODIHR’s new methodology for assessing gender equality in political life at the national level. The results of the workshop are to inform the development of the new Gender Action Plan of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia’s national strategy on gender equality for the period from 2023 on.
Workshop objectives
- Preliminary assess the current status related to gender balance and gender equality in the political life in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
- Identify achievements and ways forward in further advancing gender balance and gender equality in political life by political parties, government, parliament and civil society.
Target audience
- Representatives of all parliamentary political parties, either MPs or representatives of party management bodies, and of government bodies and international organizations and partners;
- Members of parliamentary committees on gender equality and state and other institutional mechanisms on gender equality;
- Representatives of key civil society organisations working on women’s political participation and gender equality in politics.
Registration
Only directly invited participants are eligible to participate.
