About

Taking stock of recent developments related to the rule of law in Poland, the event aims to empower judicial associations by identifying concrete recommendations on how domestic and international judicial associations can help protect and promote the rule of law. The event will facilitate an exchange of views among national and international stakeholders.

Background

OSCE participating States have committed to promoting the independence of the judiciary, including by recognizing “the important function national and  international associations of judges and lawyers can perform in strengthening respect for the  independence of their members” (Moscow 1991). There are several judicial associations both in Poland and on the international level that work in various ways to strengthen judicial independence and safeguard the rule of law in the OSCE region.

The meeting is not open to the general public. Interested parties may contact Carolyn.Hammer@ODIHR.pl
