About

This webinar will discuss the stage of implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS) from a security Sector Governance (SSG) perspective. The full title of the meeting is "A Security Sector Governance Approach to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda: holding the Security Sector to account on Gender Equality".

In particular, discussions will address, among others, the following questions:

  • What key aspects of effective SSG within the security sector can help achieve the WPS goals?
  • What are the outstanding challenges from an SSG lens - such as insufficient inclusivity, transparency, accountability - that prevent progress in the implementation of the Agenda?
  • How can the oversight of the security sector - by Ombuds institutions, national human rights institutions, parliaments and civil society - successfully monitor and hold security sector to account in order to implementati the WPS and achieve gender equality?
  • What are the successful examples of security sector institutions closely cooperating with civil society organizations to strengthen their transparency for WPS and gender equality?
