Engaging Male Politicians for Gender Equality in Politics

About the event

The OSCE Mission to Skopje and ODIHR's CHANGE project are organizing a two-day training workshop on engaging male politicians for gender equality in politics.

The workshop will bring together politicians, political party representatives, civil society organizations, gender equality bodies and international organizations to discuss how men in political life can help advance women’s full, equal and meaningful participation in politics.

What the workshop will cover

The training will focus on gender equality in politics, barriers to women’s political participation, violence against women in politics, and ways to counter resistance to gender equality.

Participants will also discuss the role of male politicians as transformative actors, including how they can use their positions to promote institutional change, support women’s leadership and help make political life more inclusive.

Background

Across the OSCE region, women’s participation in political and public life has increased, supported by legal reforms, institutional mechanisms and gender quotas. However, women remain under-represented in many areas of political leadership, while men continue to hold most senior decision-making positions.

The workshop responds to the need for stronger engagement of male politicians in advancing gender equality, including within political parties, elected office and public institutions.
