Type:
Election expert team
Country:
Cyprus
Election Dates:
24 May 2026

Following an invitation to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled for 24 May 2026, based on the findings and conclusions of the Needs Assessment Mission, and in accordance with its mandate, ODIHR has deployed an Election Expert Team (EET) for these elections.

The ODIHR EET comprised two international staff drawn from two OSCE participating States.

The expert team assessed the election process in terms of its compliance with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as national legislation. Observers focused on the conduct and regulation of campaigning and campaign finance, in particular online, institutional preparedness and effectiveness in identifying and responding to disinformation and potential foreign and domestic interference, accessibility of various stages of the electoral process for persons with disabilities, as well as the participation of women in political and public life.

In line with ODIHR methodology, the ODIHR EET did not carry out systematic or comprehensive observation of the voting, counting, and tabulation on election day. The ODIHR Expert Team members visited a few polling stations on election day and the counting centre.

A final report will be issued some months after the end of the electoral process.
