About the event

Promoting women’s participation in all spheres of political and public life is at the centre of the OSCE’s commitments. Advancing women’s political participation and gender equality in political life is a long-term and multi-faceted process, which requires action from diverse critical actors, including political parties, parliaments, government agencies and civil society. Many OSCE participating States have legally regulated certain aspects, for instance gender quotas for election candidate lists, but there is an overall lack of a strategic and proactive approach by government authorities.

ODIHR, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Armenia, is running a series of workshops and focus groups discussions aiming to assess the current status and potential ways forward in advancing gender equality in politics. The workshops and focus group discissions are the part of data collection process within the national assessment of the gender equality in political life based on ODIHR’s methodology. The results of the national assessment are to inform the final report, including a list of conclusions and recommendations for a national action plan.

The national assessment is a part of the Stronger Democratic Institutions in Eastern Partnership Countries project, which is supported and financed by the European Union, with additional support from France, Italy, Norway, and Switzerland.
