Limited election observation mission
General Elections, 5 November 2024
Following an invitation to observe the general elections in the United States scheduled for 5 November 2024, and in accordance with its mandate, ODIHR has deployed a Limited Election Observation Mission (LEOM).

Long-term Observation
The mission is led by Tamás Meszerics and consists of a core team of 15 experts based in Washington, D.C. In addition, 64 long-term observers will be deployed throughout the country from 5 October.
The mission will assess the elections for their compliance with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards, as well as with national legislation.
Components
Observers will closely follow fundamental components of the elections, including:
- Election-related legislation and its implementation, including federal and state election legislation
- Election administration - including voter registration, voter identification, alternative voting mechanisms and measures to ensure secrecy of the vote
- New voting technologies - focusing on the type of technology used in the elections, certification and evaluation of these technologies
- The campaign environment, including online.
- Campaign finance, including its regulation, transparency and accountability.
- the resolution of election-related disputes
The ODIHR LEOM will conduct qualitative and quantitative monitoring of media coverage of the election campaign as well as a limited observation of election campaigns on social networks.
Co-operation with other partners
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) intend to deploy an observer delegation. The day after the elections, ODIHR, together with the OSCE PA, will issue a statement of preliminary findings and conclusions at a press conference.
Previous Elections
ODIHR has previously observed federal elections in the United States ten times since 2002, most recently, the 2022 mid-term elections.
