About
ODIHR is organizing an expert roundtable with judges, civil society organizations, academia and international organizations to take stock of recent developments regarding the normative framework and practices for judicial appointments in Hungary. The event will also provide a platform for dialogue and an exchange of views among national and international stakeholders related to current challenges.
Background
OSCE participating States have made commitments to respect internationally recognized standards that relate to the independence of judges (Moscow 1991). Participating States have also committed to ensuring that judges are selected in a non-discriminatory basis. Ensuring that judges are selected in a transparent manner which is free from interference is a way to safeguard judicial independence; see for instance ODIHR’s Kyiv Recommendations on Judicial Independence in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia (2010).
Registration
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
