About
ODIHR is organizing a workshop in Tajikistan as part of its work to promote gender-sensitive parliaments that deliver for all women in men in societies across the OSCE region.
Objectives
- Advance the understanding of members of the Tajik parliament and parliamentary staff of how gender equality is relevant for all activities of the parliament;
- Conduct a basic self-assessment of how gender equality is taken into account in parliamentary work, procedures and structure.
The workshop will be delivered by Yulia Netesova, Chief of ODIHR’s Democratic Governance and Gender Unit, and Saša Gavrić, ODIHR’s Officer working on Gender & Politics. Sonja Lokar, international expert from Slovenia, will contribute to the workshop with experience-sharing online sessions.
Why is it important?
National parliaments are well placed to champion the objective of gender equality and promote gender mainstreaming, by responding to the needs and interests of both men and women in its composition, structures, operations, working methods and day-to-day work. Parliaments are also responsible to produce gender-responsive policy outcomes, through decision-making and the adoption of documents in the competence of the parliaments, or indirectly through gender-sensitive oversight of the performance of the executive.
