About
By organizing this pilot training, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) aims to help advance the knowledge and skills of OSCE trial monitors to effectively monitor corruption and organized crime cases. The training is one of ODIHR's activities to support better administration of justice in such cases in the Western Balkans, as part of a three-year project funded by the European Union.
The main aim of the pilot training is to review and amend the five training modules for the project covering the basic elements of trial monitoring, trial monitoring principles, the legal framework for organized crime and corruption, and the project-specific methodology for monitoring and analysis.
The training of project staff is planned for the end of June.
Participants
OSCE representatives from the Conflict Prevention Centre, the Presence in Albania, the Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Mission to Montenegro, the Mission to Skopje and the Mission in Kosovo.
Background
The EU-funded project “Supporting a More Effective Administration of Justice in Corruption and Organised Crime Cases in the Western Balkans” began in January 2021 and is being implemented by the OSCE, in particular its Conflict Prevention Centre, ODIHR, the field operations in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia, and the Mission in Kosovo. It builds on OSCE trial monitoring expertise and experience to conduct trial monitoring of serious corruption and organized crime cases in South-East Europe. Based on this trial monitoring, OSCE will develop concrete recommendations for host authorities to provide a more effective judicial response to corruption and organized crime.
