About
ODIHR is organizing a meeting with civil society organizations, academia and international organizations to discuss how to improve and strengthen judicial and prosecutorial independence in Poland. The meeting will feature presentations by experts as well as interactive discussions among the meeting participants.
Background
OSCE participating States have made commitments to the independence of judges and the impartial operation of the public judicial service. These commitments include protecting “the independence of legal practitioners” and clearly defining “powers in relation to prosecution and the measures preceding and accompanying prosecution”. Prosecutors should also play a key role in ensuring and protecting the independence of the judiciary.
