About the event
Parliamentary disability inclusion assessments help national parliaments examine how effectively persons with disabilities are included in parliamentary life, looking at areas such as representation, lawmaking, oversight, accessibility and engagement with persons with disabilities and their representative organizations.
ODIHR, in collaboration with the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and organizations of persons with disabilities represented in the Working Group on the Accessibility, is running a workshop, a series of interviews and focus groups, and an infrastructure accessibility check of the parliament premises, as part of an assessment of disability inclusion in the work of the Jogorku Kenesh. The results are to inform recommendations for improving the inclusion of the parliament's infrastructure, services and processes. This is example of an excellent partnership between the parliament and civil society - organizations of persons with disabilities represented. The assessment is based on ODIHR’s methodology for assessing disability inclusion in parliaments.
