About the event

Public trust in parliaments is closely linked to the conduct of elected representatives and the ability of parliamentary institutions to uphold integrity and accountability. Codes of conduct can help establish clear expectations, prevent and manage conflicts of interest, and address corruption risks. But adopting a code is only the first step.

This ODIHR side event will bring together parliamentarians, civil society representatives and experts to explore what makes parliamentary codes of conduct work in practice. Drawing on experiences from Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus, the discussion will examine how ethical standards are implemented and overseen, how parliaments respond to breaches, and how political parties can promote integrity among candidates and elected representatives.

Participants will consider how these measures can contribute to a lasting culture of integrity and help strengthen public confidence in parliaments. The panel discussion will be followed by questions and answers.

The is organized as part of Stronger Democratic Institutions in Eastern Partnership Countries, an ODIHR project funded by the European Union, with support from France, Norway, Italy and Switzerland.
