About the event
On 3 June 2026, ODIHR will launch its Handbook on Advocating for Roma and Sinti Women’s Rights during an event bringing together Roma and Sinti women activists, civil society representatives, policymakers and experts from across the OSCE region.
The event will focus on barriers Roma and Sinti women continue to face in public and political life, and on practical ways to strengthen advocacy, co-operation and support for Roma and Sinti women’s rights.
Participants will also discuss how the new handbook can help civil society organizations and activists engage more effectively in policymaking, secure resources and sustain long-term advocacy efforts.
The publication builds on ODIHR’s 2024 Needs Assessment of Roma and Sinti Women’s Organizations and Activists, which highlighted challenges including limited representation, lack of funding and barriers to influencing policy change.

Participants will discuss:
- Barriers facing Roma and Sinti women’s advocacy efforts across the OSCE region
- Experiences and strategies developed by Roma and Sinti women activists and organizations
- Ways to strengthen institutional and political support for Roma and Sinti women’s rights
- How the handbook can support practical, intersectional advocacy and policy engagement

The event will gather Roma and Sinti women activists, civil society organizations, international experts and policymakers working on equality, anti-discrimination and human rights issues across the OSCE region.

Why this matters
Roma and Sinti women often face overlapping forms of discrimination based on both ethnicity and gender. ODIHR’s work aims to strengthen the capacity of Roma and Sinti women’s organizations and activists to influence decision-making and advocate for policies that respond to their needs.
The handbook is designed as a practical tool to support advocacy, coalition-building and engagement with policymakers, while highlighting examples and strategies developed by Roma and Sinti women themselves.
