About the event

Parliaments play a key role in ensuring that everyone — including persons with disabilities — can take part in public life on equal terms. Removing physical, social and systemic barriers is essential for making political processes accessible, strengthening representation and building more inclusive democracies.

To support this, ODIHR and the Parliament of Montenegro are hosting a workshop on disability inclusion for the parliamentary community. The workshop brings together Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and international experts to explore practical steps for making parliamentary work and premises more accessible.

Participants will look at international standards, common barriers to political participation, and examples of good practice from other countries. The workshop is based on ODIHR’s methodology for assessing disability inclusion in parliaments and will also introduce the approach to an upcoming accessibility review of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The aim is to build shared commitment towards developing Montenegro’s first Parliamentary Action Plan for Advancing Disability Inclusion in Political Life.
