ODIHR experts have arrived in Dushanbe to discuss plans by the central election commission to develop and implement electronic voting in Tajikistan.

The discussions are part of a three-day visit, starting on 21 February, to gather detailed information about the proposals and to offer advice on the challenges presented by e-voting.

ODIHR recently appointed a senior adviser on new voting technologies and co-organized an expert seminar on the issue in September 2010 in Vienna.

ODIHR observed the 2010 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan and issued a report including a number of recommendations on how to bring the country electoral framework in line with OSCE commitments and other international standards.
