About the event
ODIHR and UNDP are partnering to bring together representatives of political parties and international experts with the aim to discuss practical approaches to strengthening political integrity through the development and implementation of codes of conduct and other integrity mechanisms within political parties. The workshop will provide a platform for exchanging experiences and good practices on promoting ethical standards, transparency and accountability in party structures.
Discussions will explore the importance of political party integrity frameworks, findings from ODIHR's regional mapping of political party ethics and integrity mechanisms across the OSCE region, and practical considerations for developing effective codes of conduct. Participants will also engage in interactive case studies on ethical dilemmas faced by political parties and examine issues related to political party finance and the role of third parties in safeguarding integrity.
Why this matters
Political parties play a central role in democratic governance, and their integrity is essential for maintaining public trust in democratic institutions. Clear ethical standards and effective integrity mechanisms help prevent conflicts of interest, promote accountability and transparency, and strengthen public confidence in political processes. As Moldova continues its democratic reform efforts, reinforcing integrity within political parties can contribute to more accountable, transparent and inclusive political institutions.
Our role
ODIHR supports OSCE participating States in strengthening democratic governance, integrity and accountability through legislative assistance, policy advice, expert dialogue and capacity-building. The workshop in Chişinău forms part of ODIHR’s ongoing assistance to Moldova in promoting ethical standards and integrity in political life. It is implemented under the Stronger Democratic Institutions in Eastern Partnership Countries project, supported and financed by the European Union, with additional support from France, Italy, Norway and Switzerland.
