About the event

Across the Western Balkans, young people vote and take part in elections less often than other groups, even though many are active in public debate. This is especially true for youth from rural, marginalized and vulnerable communities, as well as for young women and persons with disabilities. Gaps in civic education, low trust in institutions, and limited opportunities to engage all play a role.

To respond to this, ODIHR, together with the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences at Babeş-Bolyai University, is organizing a two-day regional workshop, “Youth, Elections and Democratic Engagement: A Regional Dialogue”.

The workshop, which is part of the Enhancing Electoral Reform in the Western Balkans project, will bring together election authorities, civil society, youth groups, academics and experts to share experiences and practical ideas. Discussions will look at barriers to youth participation, the role of digital spaces, and ways to reach both student and non-student youth. The event will also explore how election bodies and universities can help build trust and democratic understanding.

Who can take part

Participation is by invitation only.
