2023 WARSAW HUMAN DIMENSION CONFERENCE: ODIHR SIDE EVENTS

These meetings will enable more in-depth discussions that highlight ODIHR’s recent activities, publications and tools to strengthen democratic institutions and human rights throughout the OSCE region. The discussions will feed back into the work of ODIHR’s departmental programmes on human rights, rule of law, democratization, tolerance and non-discrimination, and the situation of Roma and Sinti in the OSCE area. The meetings will also explore other aspects of ODIHR’s mandate where relevant.

The side events will serve as a platform for debate and exchange, and at the same time allow participating States, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the media to provide valuable input on the topics covered by ODIHR’s mandate.

During the first week, participants will have the opportunity to address the following topics:

• 3 October: Launch of ODIHR’s new Handbook for the Observation of Election Administration
• 5 October: Addressing anti-religious hate crime
• 5 October: Addressing online hate in the age of artificial intelligence
• 6 October: Human Rights Defenders in exile
• 6 October: Self-advocacy by women from under-represented groups for achieving justice and gender equality

During the second week, discussions will focus on the following topics:

• 9 October: Presenting the ODIHR Recommendations on Judicial Independence and Accountability
• 9 October: Launch of the ODIHR Brief on Guiding Principles of Democratic Lawmaking and Better Laws
• 10 October: Making the Nelson Mandela Rules actionable for prison staff
• 11 October: The human rights situation of Ukrainian Roma affected by the war in Ukraine
• 11 October: Capacity-building tools for Roma and Sinti civil society: Guidelines for activists in addressing situations of evictions of Roma and Sinti and Guidelines for activists in addressing access to healthcare and vaccination of Roma and Sinti 
• 12 October: Addressing Trafficking of Women and Children as a Result of Armed Conflicts

ODIHR will also organize a Women’s Power Breakfast, entitled “ODIHR’s Women’s Power Breakfast: Challenges for Women, peace and security in Central Asia and across the OSCE”, on the morning of 5 October.
