About
On 18 March 2021, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Apne Aap Women Worldwide will host a panel of sex-trafficking survivors who will discuss how they became leaders, and superheroes even, in the struggle against the sex-trafficking industry. This is a parallel online event during the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The launch
Feminist icon Gloria Steinem will make the opening remarks. She will launch a comic book and discuss how each feminist who stands up to injustice can be seen as a superhero.
This online event will start with the launch of a feminist comic superhero called Priya and the Wolves. This book is written by Ruchira Gupta, founder-president of Apne Aap Women Worldwide and feminist campaigner and journalist.
A panel of survivor superheroes will follow:
- Malaika Oringo, founder/CEO of Footprint to Freedom and survivor leader
- Shandra Woworuntu, CEO of Mentari and survivor leader
- Alika Kinan Sánchez, Argentinian anti-trafficking activist and survivor leader
- Sandra Norak, German anti-trafficking activist and survivor leader
The event will be moderated by Tatiana Kotlyarenko, ODIHR Adviser on Anti-Trafficking Issues. It will be held in English.
