About

The goal of the roundtable is to discuss the portrayal of Roma in and by the media, the adequacy of existing legal and policy frameworks and the role of self-regulatory mechanisms in countering prejudices and biased portrayal in general, and of Roma in particular.

The roundtable aims to explore the various experiences of participants about how Roma are portrayed in the media in their countries, identify good initiatives, practices and ways to combat anti-Roma prejudice, hatred and incitement promoted through the media.

The event will bring together a range of participants working at the national and international levels who possess relevant expertise on the subject, such as Roma journalists in mainstream media and Roma media, and Roma professionals producing media documentaries.

Presenting a balanced portrayal of Roma and Sinti in mass media and refraining from stereotypes has been identified as one of the priorities under the 2003 OSCE Action Plan on Improving the Situation of Roma and Sinti within the OSCE Area.
