About
The expert meeting will primarily focus on the application of the Guidelines on the Legal Personality of Religious or Belief Communities published by ODIHR and the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission to the domestic context of Uzbekistan. The event will gather representatives of relevant ministries, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Mazhlis (parliament) and civil society.
The participants will discuss the importance of legal personality for the full realisation of the right to freedom of religion or belief, the role of the state in facilitating registration and access to legal personality for religious or belief communities, and good practices on registration and legal personality from around the OSCE region. The roundtable will also focus on the ongoing efforts to respect, protect and fulfil the right to freedom of religion or belief in Uzbekistan. The meeting is the first in a series of events focusing on the right to freedom of religion or belief ODIHR will hold in Uzbekistan.
